Mike Wheeler
With Mike Wheeler we will have a guest in Europe who's one of the best guitarists in the contemporary nowadays Chicago blues scene. With his second album „Turn Up“, just released on Delmark Records, Wheeler plays regularly in his hometown of Chicago on stages like Buddy Guy's Legends, House Of Blues or the legendary Kingston Mines. As a guitarist he blends influences of Otis Rush, Robert Cray and Jimi Hendrix and developes them with his own unmistakeable style. His singing voice is reminscent of Sam Cooke and Wheeler's soul influenced singing makes him without doubt one of the best international voices you can hear on microphone.
On his 2018 European tour Mike Wheeler has Germany's top blues guitarist Kai Strauss at his side. Wheeler has been guest guitarist on Kai's 2016 album „I Go By Feel“. This top rated guitar double will be augmented by the French rhythm team Fred Letroit on bass and Pascal Delmas on drums. Both have played with Otis Grand, Matthew Skoller and many more US artists on their European tours. We are delighted and surethat this will be a tremendous finale to this year's Blueslawine.
Erja Lyytinen
No doubt: Erja Lyytinen has the right talents and the looks to put her homeland Finland on the international map of blues music. The guitarist and singer was born in 1976 into a musical family in Kuopio. When she was fifteen she started playing on stage with her parents. With her sharp slide guitar playing she reminds one of Bonnie Raitt. Singing role models for her are Aretha Franklin and Koko Taylor. Erja mixes blues with elements of jazz, pop, R & B and country music. In her homeland she became a fixture in the blues community and extended her activities all over Europe. We are looking forward to a tight working band at Blueslawine 2018.
Boogielicious
… is a boogie, blues and jazz trio of German-Dutch origin with Eeco Rijken Rapp on piano and vocals, David Herzel on drums and Bertram Becher on bluesharp. Boogielicious is one of the extraordinary boogie bands in Europe which transcends the popular music of the 1920s to 40s into the 21st century. With their four albums up to now the band has reached the peak of this music genre.
With their rousing way of playing the band had the audience on their side in concerts in German as well as in France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and Portugal. The Blueslawine concert will also feature Jens Kühn on double bass when the band opens the evening of Blueslawine no. 24.
